Halloween. My favorite time of year!!
Most of that Saturday, I really didn’t do much at all, which was nice. The day was all about the evening trick-or-treating. I was dressing up as the classic ghost — a sheet with holes cut out of it. I even got Yvette to sort of get festive. She put on some devil horns.
Rather than handing out candy, we went out on a candy grab of our own. Lola, Hagen, and Alaya joined us for some good old-fashioned trick-or-treating. With the sheet over my head, I was mostly blind. This meant I had to hold Yvette’s hand for most of the night. I made a point of saying that next year, I needed to wear something I could actually see out of.
The night was fun. So many people were out, and some houses were handing out hot dogs. Others had adult beverages, and all of them had plenty of candy. It was a great damn time. Once we had gotten our share of candy, we grabbed some dinner and went home to eat. I’d forgotten to turn off the porch light, so, of course, a group of eleven kids came up looking for candy. I obliged, then quickly killed the lights.
After dinner, it was time for my Halloween tradition: watching Trick ’r Treat. I couldn’t believe the spooky time of year had already come to an end.
Sunday, I woke up sad. It was time to put away all my Halloween decorations. Where had the month of October gone? It had passed in a flash. The house looked so sad.
For lunch, we went to Yvette’s parents’ house, grubbed down, and watched the Cowboys lose. What a surprise.
It was the time change, so I left early to study. I hate the time change.
Monday was the most bizarre. There was a tornado watch, followed by a crazy fucking I storm that night. We got an inch of rain, along with thunder and lots of lightning. Day of the dead.

Tuesday. What a hell of a day. Toward the end of it, I had an important discussion—an interview, I suppose.
After work, Yvette and I went to see baby Niles. It had been way too long.

The election night. Texas is blue. Thank the fucking gods. As well as many other states. It was a long time coming.
The thing about me is that I’ve never voted for a party; I vote for the person. If you’re a good person, you get my vote. I couldn’t find a single redeeming character trait in any of the Republican candidates except one. All trash. Most of them, proven trash. I’ve never voted more one-sidedly in my life than ever before: Democrats. These MAGA pushed me there.
I used to be a Republican. They were the people whose morality most closely aligned with mine. Not anymore. The Republican Party—especially under Trump—has destroyed whatever I believed it stood for. I shifted toward Democrats because I could no longer reconcile Republican politics with my basic standards for honesty, accountability, compassion, and respect for democratic institutions. The party’s embrace of Trump’s lies about elections, its willingness to excuse cruelty and corruption, and its attacks on reproductive rights and minority communities made the choice increasingly clear. Fuck that orange bastard.
I woke up Wednesday feeling hopeful again.
I had a date with the bloodletting bitches. Fourteen vials later, I had another hundred dollars in my pocket.
After work, I went to the library and started my project. I had ideas. After that, I had dinner with Lola, Hagan, Alaya, and Yvette. Yvette made us a damn good plate.
Thursday. Something cool happened at work. Very exciting. Opportunities arose, and I was excited. More to come.
Friday. Fuck yeah. Finally.
I made a choice. After work, I went to visit a friend and had a drink to celebrate the day. Then I went home, cooked dinner, and Yvette and I had Alaya. We watched Finding Nemo.
It was a great week.
Happy Friday!!
